"the religious life if india is something like the ganges river". this particular region hinduism has been around for thousand of years and has been influenced by indigenous religions and influences from later immigrants.

the three most important gods in the hindu religion are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva
-Brahma represents the creative force that made the universe. He has four faces, each looking in the four directions, and eight arms, each holding symbols of power. his companion animal is a white goose.
-Vishnu represents the force of preservation in the universe. in the Vedas he is a god associated with the sun, although his role there appears to be small. thought of as light and warmth that destroys darkness.his companion animal is a great eaglelike bird, garuda, on whom he flies through the universe.
-Shiva- the god liked with destruction , in hinduism destruction is considered to be simply another part of the divine energy at work in the world. shiva is also associated with recreation.

Hinduism is a very unique religion. It is the third largest religion in the world. They believe in karma, a sacred text which is the oldest Indian text called Vedas, Brahmans (priests), karma, and reincarnation. They also believe in gods. Three chief gods are:
Shiva: destroyer and restorer
Vishnu: protector of everything and restorer of moral order
Goddess Shakti: divine force that destroys demons and restores balance
The Ganges river is a sacred river to the Hindus and it is located in India. It provides about 80 percent of India’s water. Supposedly, if they do rituals by the river, they will be more blessed. The land around the river is also sacred. If they die by the river they will be sent to heaven with all their sins forgiven.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I would like to start by saying that Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world, if not the oldest. It is the predominant religion in India and it includes many traditions such as Shaivism, Vaishnavism, and Srauta.
Hinduism follows karma (action), dharma (morality), and societal norms.
The main writings of Hinduism are the Vedas, Upanishadas, The Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

There are three important Gods in Hinduism. The Trimurti ( triple form) are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
BRAHMA is the representation of the creative force that made the universe.
VISHNU represents the force of preservation in the universe.
SHIVA is the representation of destruction and it is the most complicated of the gods, both in origin and in conception.

The Ganges River is the sacred river of India. It is approximately 1,557 miles long and it rises in the western Himalayas in the indina state of Uttarakhand. It is worshiped as the goddess Ganga in Hinduism.
For Hindus in India, the Ganga is not just a river but a mother, a goddess and a tradition since they believe that one must bathe at least once in their lifetime in the river in order to have a completed life.

Thank you! :) Yisandra

Hinduism, often referred to as the "oldest living religion", is a very unique religion on the facts that it is formed of very diverse traditions and has no single former. They have many gods and deities, but have their main focus on the hindu trinity: Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu.

Shiva- Destroyer of the world
Brahma- Creator of the world
Vishnu- Preserver and protector of creation

Good evening,

Hinduism is the religious life of India. It is not so much a religion, rather a system of beliefs and ideas; a way of living. It has been around for thousands of years and it has no identifiable founder.

Hinduisms follows concepts such as Atman, Dharma, Varna, Karma, Purushartha, Brahman, & Guru. They have many gods and goddesses but the three most important ones are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. These three gods are responsible for the creation, upkeep, destruction of the world. Some other gods and goddesses includes Ganesha, Krishna, Rama,Hanuman, Lakshmi, Durga, Kali and Saraswati. Below I will give a brief explanation of the three most important deities.

Brahma: is the creator of the universe.
Vishnu: this god is the preserver or sustainer of life with his steadfast principles of order, righteousness and truth.
Shiva: the most powerful deity in Hinduism who represents death and dissolution.

The Ganges River is the most sacred river to Hindus. It means life, purity, and a goddess to the people of India. The story behind the river is that “Mother Ganges” poured herself down from heaven upon the ashes of King Sarga's sons and the waters raised her up again to dwell in peace in heaven. Today, the river has a reputation that anyone who touches these waters are said to be cleansed of all sins.

Thank you,

Kiara De Jesus

Hinduism is one of the oldest religions that originated in India. Hinduism came about when the Aryans took most of what is now India. The many gods of the Aryans combined with the Indian traditions and different types of meditation came to create Hinduism. Hinduism is very broad and allows people to worship the god of their choice or even to be atheists.

Brahma is the creator of all things and the universe.
Shiva is the destroyer of the world, most powerful and mostly represents death.
Vishnu is the protector of all and stands for truth and rightfulness.

The Ganges River is known as the holy river of Hinduism. This river is very long (1560 miles) and flows through the most populated areas of India. This river stands for life and pureness. It is very sacred and used for many traditions within Hinduism.

Hinduism is very different in the sense that the very old mixes with the very new.

Many different gods, which represent different things.

"The term "Hinduism" simply derives from the word "India" and refers to a wide variety of religious traditions and philosophies that have developed in India over thousands of years. Most Hindus worship one or more deities, believe in reincarnation, value the practice of meditation, and observe festive holidays like Diwali and Holi. Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal, and also is the world's oldest extant religion, which makes it the world's third largest religion.

The triumvirate consists of three gods who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world. They are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

Brahma is the first god in the Hindu triumvirate. Brahma's job was creation of the world and all creatures.Brahma is the least worshipped god in Hinduism today. There are only two temples in the whole of India devoted to him, compared with the many thousands devoted to the other two.

Vishnu is the preserver of the universeHis role is to return to the earth in troubled times and restore the balance of good and evil.

Shiva's role is to destroy it in order to re-create. Hindus believe his powers of destruction and recreation are used even now to destroy the illusions and imperfections of this world, paving the way for beneficial change.

Hello everyone,

I said in class that if i had to choose one religion to believe in and follow it would be this one.

Technically, from what I have read, Hinduism is the world's oldest religion, there is no definite date of start and it also has no true human founder. Hinduism is a religion based on mysticism,a person of the faith follows the path set forth in "The Vedas" which are the Hindu's religious texts. They believe in continual reincarnation until the point of enlightenment, where one finally reaching the pinnacle of consciousness where man and God are one.

Also, there is one main god, Brahman. There are three others that are very important to the religion as well. These are, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. These three gods make up the Trimurti, or triumvirate. Brahma created the universe and everything in it, creatures and all. Vishnu is the god of righteousness, he protects all and he is the preserve of all creation. Shiva is basically what Christianity considers the devil. He is the god of destruction and death. Since the Hindu believe in reincarnation one always comes into contact with Shiva in one way or another.

The Ganges River is the Holy river in Hinduism. It delivers life, and death. It signifies the religion in a way, it connects all the major cities in India. Its waters keep millions from starving. Also its waters are said to cleans those who enter it of all sins.

Hello Students,

Thank you for posting! Hinduism is a very special religion as it embraces concepts such as Karma, Reincarnation, and Yoga, terms embraced by our Western Society. Now, do we really understand these terms? This is what we will be exploring next Wednesday in class. Keep in mind that in India there are many religions which are practiced, therefore a person from India is not necessarily a "Hindu" but "Indian." Hindu is a person who practices Hinduism.

I wish you all a beautiful day!

Hinduism is a polytheistic religion with many subdivisions. It stems from indigenous religion and was influenced by immigration. The religion is ancient and was separated by eras. First is Vedic era writing, which later had Upanishads added to it."The most important notions in the Upanishads are Brahman, Atman, maya, karma, samsara, & moksha."

Rama & Sita are the ideal couple in Hinduism. He is a central figure in the Ramayana and he rescues Sita from the evil king Ravana with the help of monkey god Hanuman.

Devi is the "Great Mother" goddess and she can appear in loving and cruel form. She appears also in the form of female goddesses such as Kali and Durga.

Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and son of Shiva. He has an elephant head and is pulled around on a carriage pulled by mice.

The Ganges river is sacred to Hindus because it has allowed for people to flourish, especially in Northern India. The river floods during summer, known as a monsoon.

Hinduism is among the oldest religions of the world with domination in the Indian population. Along with following the many Gods, Hindus believe in Karma which is focused on the cycle of life and Reincarnation, or rebirth. Hinduism follows the religious text of Vedas. There are three important Gods in the Hindu religion that make up the trinity. The Hindu religion recognizes the eternal soul of Brahman, who created all of what we know. The other deities are said to have qualities of Brahman. Vishnu protects the universe and saves humans from disasters and oppression, and is associated with fertility and feminine energy in Hinduism. Shiva is the destroyer that possesses elements of good and evil and is also connected with fertility. Pilgrimage is important in Hinduism because the purpose is to encounter a deity. The Ganges River serves as the place of pilgrimage and is considered a symbol of purity and it is an important part of Hindu life to bathe in the river at least once to cleanse one of their sins.

Hinduism (often called "The oldest religion in the world") is the popular religion in India.

One orthodox classification of Hindu texts is to divide into Śruti and Smriti texts which discuss theology, philosophy, mythology, rituals and temple building among other topics.

The vast majority of Hindus engage in religious rituals on a daily basis. In Hinduism, life-cycle rituals include:
Annaprashan - a baby's first intake of solid food. Upanayanam - "sacred thread ceremony" undergone by upper-caste children at their initiation into formal education.
Śrāddha - Ritual of treating people to a meal in return for prayers to 'God' to give peace to the soul of the deceased.

Hinduism is one of the oldest known organized religions. its sacred writings date as far back as 1400 to 1500 B.C. It is also one of the most diverse and complex, having millions of gods. Hindus have a wide variety of core beliefs and exist in many different sects. Although it is the third largest religion in the world, Hinduism exists primarily in India and Nepal.

Even though Hinduism is mostly understood as being polytheistic, supposedly recognizing as many as 330 million gods, it also has one “god” that is supreme called Brahma. Brahma is an entity believed to inhabit every portion of reality and existence throughout the entire universe. Brahma is both impersonal and unknowable and is often believed to exist in three separate forms: Brahma—Creator; Vishnu—Preserver; and Shiva—Destroyer. These “facets” of Brahma are also known through the many other incarnations of each. It is difficult to summarize Hindu theology because the various Hindu schools contain elements of almost every theological system. Which complicates the theory that much more.

The Ganges river is known to be a trans-boundary river of India and Bangladesh. its the second longest river in the world and is the most scared river to Hindus and is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who live along its course and depend on it for daily needs.

Hinduism is a major world religion originating on the Indian subcontinent and comprising several and varied systems of philosophy, belief, and ritual. Although the name Hinduism is relatively new, having been coined by British writers in the first decades of the 19th century, it refers to a rich cumulative tradition of texts and practices, some of which date to the 2nd millennium be or possibly earlier.

Brahma: is the least worshipped god in Hinduism today. There are only two temples in the whole of India devoted to him, compared with the many thousands devoted to the other two.

Shiva: is known to have untamed passion, which leads him to extremes in behavior. Sometimes he is an ascetic, abstaining from all wordily pleasures. At others he is a hedonist.

Lakshmi: is the consort of the god Vishnu. She is one of the most popular goddesses of Hindu mythology and is known as the goddess of wealth and purity.

Hello Students,

Great job with your posts!
This post stayed in draft because we lost power yesterday here in Managua and I thought it was posted!

What is the main difference between a monotheist and polytheist religion? How can that influence the way we live our lives? What about the concept of the afterlife? Remember to write on your journal!
I wish you all a beautiful week-end.

Shiva is a paradoxical deity: "both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger." -Vishnu: whose name means "All-Pervading," is the protector of the world and the restorer of moral order (dharma). He is peaceful, merciful, and compassionate.

Hinduism was originated in India based on the concept of reincarnation and karma. It is a polytheistic religion as they believe in several gods and goddesses. The three most notable deities are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Brahma represents creation and was depicted as a king sitting on a throne with four faces. Vishnu represents preservation and in the Vedas, is associated with the sun. Vishnu is worshiped by about 3 quarters of all Hindus in India. Shiva represents destruction. Hindus greatly appreciate Shiva, for in death there is life and without destruction there could not be creation.

By definition monotheism is the belief in, and worship of, one god only. Polytheism is, by definition, the belief in, and worship of, many gods and/or goddesses
Monotheistic religions can potentially limit our outlook to life and other cultures by refraining our beliefs to one single diety, however this system of religion can also offer more sense of unity to its believers.Polytheism while providing a more open belief system which affords more freedom of belief also can Crete more more confusion among believers.
Human beings, apparently alone among all the life forms on earth, are aware that their life is finite. According to many theologians one of the main comforts that people obtain from their religious faith is the assurance that life will not end at their death. They believe that it will continue in some form for all eternity.

Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal. It also exists among significant populations outside of the sub continent and has over 900 million adherents worldwide. The term 'Hindu' was derived from the river or river complex of the northwest, the Sindhu. Unlike most other religions, Hinduism has no single founder, no single scripture, and no commonly agreed set of teachings. As for the God in Hinduism, Vaishnavas focus on Vishnu and his incarnations. The Vaishanavas believe that God incarnates into the world in different forms such as Krishna and Rama in order to restore dharma. This is considered to be the most popular Hindu denomination. Shaivas focus on Shiva, particularly in his form of the linga although other forms such as the dancing Shiva are also worshipped. Shaktas focus on the Goddess in her gentle forms such as Lakshmi, Parvati, and Sarasvati, or in her ferocious forms such as Durga and Kali.

Hinduism is a collective term applied to the many philosophical and religious traditions native to India. Hinduism has neither a specific moment of origin nor a specific founder. Rather, the tradition understands itself to be timeless, having always existed.Hinduism encompasses a number of major sects, as well as countless subsects with local or regional variations. On one level, it is possible to view these sects as distinct religious traditions, with often very specific theologies and ritual traditions; on another level, however, they often understand themselves to be different means to reach a common end. The Hindu worldview is grounded in the doctrines of samsara (the cycle of rebirth) and karma (the universal law of cause and effect), and fundamentally holds that one's actions (including one's thoughts) directly determine one's life, both one's current life and one's future lives.

The tradition is typically divided into four major sects: Shaiva (devotees of the god Shiva), Vaishnava (devotees of the god Vishnu), Shakta (devotees of the goddess), and Smarta (those who understand the ultimate form of the divine to be abstract and all encompassing, Brahman).
